In this project, the students dealt with the pan-European phenomenon of demographic change. They recognized for example its causes and consequences in the European context and at their national level.
On this basis, the students thematized and picked out the significant differences between their own young generation and that of their parents and grandparents concerning world views, attitudes, technical experiences and understanding, view of history and their own national identity. Their own definition from the parental generation has been taken as a feature of their existence and was the foundation of their reflection and motivation.
A survey and personal interviews with representatives of the older generation were the base for the results in all countries. In addition, students explored examples of the effects and impacts of lifestyle of this older generation to the present time. They also provided a critical comparison to their own generation and they were able to formulate their future expectations. The generational differences have been illustrated in specific aspects such as the importance of family, art, forms of communication, future expectations, nature experiences, mobility, lifestyle and nutrition. In addition, the students have worked on the issue of generation difference in literature in their home countries.
By doing this in various project documents, they presented a picture of the history of mentalities and social development from the 20th century down to the 21st from a national and European perspective.
The results and the project activities also contributed to a better intergenerational understanding and promoted solidarity between the generations.
